Investing in future
In 2005, we started investing in the future of our nation by initiating a school tour programme at our milking parlour at Welgegund farm. This has proved successful, with the 10,000th school child visiting our farm in 2015 as part of their school programme.
Currently more than 70 Cape Province schools have participated in our school tours programme.
Experience where dairy comes from
On arrival, school children are met by a Fair Cape representative who takes them to our education room. A presentation centred on our dairy cows, the milking process and the healthy management of our cows is explained.
An explanation of the yoghurt-making process is discussed and supported by visual slides.
See the cows
Children love meeting the cows and seeing them being milked. We’ll explore the farm, see the cows grazing and learn about dairy farming in an exciting way! Our cows are curious to see what is happening around them.Learn More about Animal Welfare
Ride on a tractor
Children are taken by tractor on a tour of the farm facilities which includes the cow housing and milking table.
For security reasons, a teacher is always in attendance and ensures that the experience supplements the school's curriculum.
Taste great dairy
On our school tour, every child is given the opportunity to make their own yoghurt. On return to the education room, each child is encouraged to express their experience on the farm either by discussion or drawing. Finally, there is a quiz with prizes and every child is given a delicious yoghurt and juice.See Our Products
